The co-founding member of Fourplay releases Chameleon, his Concord debut, and first widely distributed solo album in 10 years this month. The fresh re-working of "Chameleon", originally co-written with Herbie Hancock for his "Head Hunters" album, is not only one of the album's highlights but carries a double meaning as well. Harvey is a chameleon in his own right considering his ability to adapt and perform such a wide range of musical styles. In addition to his work with Fourplay and Herbie Hancock, Harvey has performed and recorded with artists as diverse as Barbara Streisand, James Brown, Beyoncé, Frank Sinatra, Carlos Santana, Michael Jackson, Seal, the London Symphony Orchestra and many others. For Chameleon, Harvey chose songs he either wrote or played on during the last four decades of his professional music career. In addition to the title track, other well know tunes include Grover Washington Jr.'s "Black Forest" which opens the album, Patrice Rushen's "Before the Dawn" and Donald Byrd's "Places and Spaces". Helping bring a more modern jazz sound to the album are some of the most promising young talents on the scene today including Christian Scott on trumpet, Ben Williams on bass, Kris Bowers (who was named one of "12 Artists to Watch" for 2014 by iTunes – US) and Mark de Clive-Lowe on keyboards, Matthew Stevens on guitar and Chris Turner on vocals.
